Winterize your nails with Julep

As an aesthetician I always talk to my clients about how important it is to take care of your hands and nails during the dry winter months. It is really easy to neglect our nails, but with a few easy steps you can have the perfect manicure for the holidays.

I am happy to be working with Julep to bring you some great tips on how to take care of your nails, as well as a fun tutorial on how to get a design like mine. If you would like to learn more about Julep head on over here, and to get some great colour inspiration visit the colour page.

This holiday season I really wanted to try something different for my manicure. Instead of the usually red, I have decided to mix it up with a classic black and just a touch of sparkle. Below are a few colours that I am absolutely loving this winter.

For my winter manicure I decided to go with black for the main colour. For the feature nail I chose a light sparkly green. I also used this colour to add french tips.

Do you have a favourite nail colour at the moment?

Wanderlust Wednesday - Okanagan wine region

Okanagan wine region

When we moved to the Okanagan in October, we were so busy finding a place to live and I was looking for work it didn't leave a whole lot of time to explore. I am lucky enough to now live in a place where I am surrounded by vineyards. I can't wait to try each and every one in the new year.

Gift guide: for the traveler

I love gift giving. Usually I start way back in September/October, slowly buying things and storing them away until I figure out who they will be perfect for. This year however I have seriously procrastinated, I'm not even close to being done.

As someone who loves to travel I have created a collection of a few things that I think would be perfect for the traveller in your life.

Favorite fall drinks

As the forecast starts calling for cooler weather we have winterized our home and prepared ourselves for the snow that is sure to come. Spending more time indoors, I have been searching for the perfect warm drink to keep me cozy and warm this winter.

Below are a few of my favourites, if you have a particular drink that you love please feel free to share in the comments below.

This pumpkin spice syrup is the perfect substitute for Starbucks. Make it at home yourself and have it all year round.

I love drinking mulled wine during the winter months, can't get enough of it. I have been playing around with a few different recipes and so far I really like this one.

Harry Potter fans rejoice, Starbucks can officially make you a butter beer recipe, there is also a butter beer frap. Or try making it at home with this recipe.

My favourite hot chocolate recipe this season.

A new place

Excitement is inevitable when you move to a new place. Exploring your neighbourhood and finding cool new stores. Searching for the perfect new place to live and competing for the perfect job. Life is filled with endless possibilities and everything is exciting.

Then Jason leaves for work and the realization that once again I have moved away from friends and family in search of a place that better suits me then the harsh winters of Calgary. A nagging feeling takes over that maybe, just maybe I have made the wrong decision this time.

I go through this process each and every time I move to a new place. Although I am use to it and everything always seems to work out and I always love the place I moved to, I wonder if I will ever stop feeling this way.

Have you ever moved to a new place and thought you had maybe made a mistake?

Wanderlust Wednesday - Dreaming

As the nights start to cool down and the days are cloudy, I can't stop dreaming about a sunny vacation somewhere.

Where would you go to get away from the winter weather?

We have moved

Again.

Let me first apologize for the unintentional lack of posting this month. I'm still in vacation mode and going over all my pictures from our UK trip makes it hard to focus on anything else. Secondly, we have packed up and moved to Penticton, British Columbia, a eight hour drive from Calgary.
Not only was I searching for a new place for us to call home but also job hunting and just trying to acquaint myself with my new surroundings.

I am excited to share our new home with you and explain why we decided to move to beautiful Penticton.

Fall check list

Can you believe how fast the months are flying by these days, does that make me old saying that? I think I might have said something very similar last year, I think that does make me old.

September was a fantastic month and I have so many beautiful pictures to share with you guys from our trip to England. First I have to go through with them all and let me tell you its going to take a while.

I have a lot of things that I would love to do this fall, here are a few of my favourites.

- Make another batch of pumpkin spice syrup, loved my homemade version last year.

- Start knitting again. I have yarn for another scarf and a shawl.

- Carve a few pumpkins in time for halloween.

- Have one last bonfire to roast mash mellows before it gets to cold.

- Go hiking to capture the beautiful colours of fall.

- Discover some new recipes for comfort food. Anyone have any good ones?

- Shop for a few items that will make our living space super cozy.

Travel

We are not rooted in the dirt, but with fidgeting feet and eager eyes.
In unfamiliar places I find comfort, the things I love, and myself, in disguise.
Where ever curiosity leads, I will follow, not much for lust but I fell in love
with the sight of the road.
